Its a shame people can't understand why the release of "alien species" is so damaging to a natural ecosystem.
From: Terry (Tue Jul 30 16:25:09 2002)
I agree. If it's not in the pond to begin with, don't add it - that could go for alot of things

First of all, Angelgrl you need to learn how to spell. Second of all, Terry what if you were to install your own pond, you would have to put in your own fish, right, you'd have to add them. Thats introducing an "alien fish" into that particullar environment, isn't it. If this snakehead fish puts up a good fight, and is fun to catch, wouldn't you want them in your pond to. Now I understand that their a predatory fish and are supposedly "veracious", but from what I read they don't carry any wildlife threatening diseases, and can't walk on land without keeping very moist, almost exactly like a gar, and gar aren't to bad of menaces are they. But whos to say what is going to happen over a course of a few months, years even. Whos to say that they couldn't do some good for the environment that their living in. From what I do read they appearantly make fairly good pets. Its like the piranha in the Amazon, it cleans up whats dead and dieing, but in the snakehead fishes case it doesn't travel in schools, and eats what is still fully alive. Piranhas don't do anything bad for their environment, do they.

and what about that poor anderson kid,if he dosent get his heart transplant he could die , ....yeah!

Timmy doesn't get it. Piranha in our native waters is a bad thing. Also, Snakeheads are considerably more advanced (gar are prehistoric), definitely more agressive (gar are gregarious and non-teritorial), and probably more intelligent than gar. Gar only eat what will fit in their mouths. Snakeheads are designed so they can take a bite out of someting if its too big to fit in whole. They would probably eat gar, and bowfin, and whatever else they took a fancy to. But I must admit I would much rather fall into a tank of hungry snakeheads than a tank of hungry piranha.
