yes, they found one in Crofton. They're trying to find it and kill it. But have been unsuccessful. It could do SERIOUS damage to the bay.

My understanding is that they couldn't live in the bay, as they are freshwater fish...

Pretty mean. I know that a pirahnna (sp ?) would kill him, but I would say that he is at least as aggressive as an oscar. The thing that sets him apart is that he can tolerate very bad water conditions (can live in a most places)

This thing is horrible looking, but my four year old daughter seems to think its cute! I will never go swimming in Maryland.

It's a shame that this fish is getting a bad name. I live in Washington state and raised large CHANNA with a friend from the time we were 7, until 11 years ago, when they became illegal in our state. It seems some jackass released them into fresh water, and they killed a ton of salmon. I love aggressive tankbusters and hope that this particular fish will remain free to those that can handle the responsibility. It looks like the BOWFIN and POLYPTERUS is the only prehistoric fish left, that we can keep in our tanks. Oh yeah! These things would destroy a Pirahna.

They can also live in a toilet, if necessary.
